প্রেমী যুগলদের বছর জুড়ে অপেক্ষার অবসানের দিন 
প্রেমের গভীরতার পরিচয় পাবে 
চকলেট, গোলাপ, পারফিউম, ইত্যাদির মাধ্যমে 
তাই বাজারে এতো রমরমা ভাব 
কী আশ্চর্য - এতদিন জানতাম প্রেম এক সুন্দর অনুভূতি 
যে দিন, ক্ষণ, বস্তু বোঝে না 
ব্যাস!! একদিন হটাৎ হয়ে যায় 
এই কি সেই আত্ম ভোলা প্রেম?

14th February - day of Love
Ending an year-long wait for this day 
Love-bird's express the depth of their feelings through 
Chocolate, Rose, Perfume and what not
Reason behind the festive air at the market perhaps
Strange - thought love is a beautiful feeling
Not bound by date, time or any material thing
Heard - Love just happens
Is this really that 'loosing oneself' kind of love?

Mid-Life Crisis

গত কয়েক বছরে প্রায় অনেক কিছু বদলে গেছে 
দামী রেস্তোরার রকমারি খাবার আর ভালো লাগে না 
ঘরের পাতলা ডাল আর ফ্যাকাশে তরকারিটাই পেটে সয় 
পাশ্চাত্য সংগীত ছেড়ে আওড়াচ্ছি হরি নাম 
আর গীতা পড়ছি লেটেস্ট বেস্টসেলার তাকে রেখে 
গাড়ীর স্পিড একশো থেকে নেমেছে পঞ্চাশে 
শীতে সর্দি , গরমে এলার্জি  আর হাটুটার ক্যাচ করে শব্দ 

সব দেখে বুঝলাম আমার সত্যি বয়েস হয়েছে 
তবু আজ খেলার মাঠের পাশ দিয়ে চলতে গিয়ে ঘটলো এক ঘটনা 
বাচ্চা ছেলের দল তুমুল ফুটবল খেলছে মাঠের বুক জুড়ে 
একটি দুর্দান্ত শট আর বলটা গোলপোস্ট ডিঙিয়ে এলো আমার পায়ের কাছে 
"কাকীমা ! বলটা ছুড়ে দেবে প্লিজ" বললো গোলপোস্ট রক্ষক 
চোখে আগুন দেখলাম, দাঁত চিবিয়ে বাঁজখাই গলায় শুধালাম "কাকীমা কে?"
তারপরেই সম্পূর্ণ রাগটা বলটার দিকে নিক্ষেপ করে দিলাম এক চূড়ান্ত লাথি 
নাইবা হলাম পেলে বা ম্যারাডোনা কিন্তু "কাকীমা" যে নোই সেটাই বুঝিয়ে দিলাম 
যাই ....ঘরে  যাই, হাঁটুটা টন টন করছে , বাম লাগাতে হবে, হয়তো এক্সরেও লাগবে 
নাহঃ .....বোধ হয় আমার সত্যি এবার বয়েস হয়েছে

A lot has changed in the last few years
My stomach prefers unappetizing home-cooked meal
Instead of the exotic dishes from the fancy restaurant
Rock music and the latest best-seller are now passe
Instead I chant "Hare Krishna" and read "Bhagwad Gita"
Speedometer has come down from 100 to 50
Winters cold, summers allergy and that creaking sound in my knees
Makes me realize that I am getting old
Something happened today while I was passing by the playground
A group of young boys were playing football 
A nice shot and the ball landed at my feet overshooting the goalpost
"Aunty! Can you pass on the ball please" said the goalkeeper
I just saw red and hissed with gnashed teeth "Aunty who?"
Giving head to all my pent-up emotions I kicked the ball 
May be not Pele or Maradona but not even "Aunty" - MESSAGE CONVEYED
Let's go.. I can feel that pain in the knee again
Maybe a pain reliever or surely an X-ray will do the trick
Guess I am getting old .. Finally

I Wonder - 10

Bengali

বিশাল সমুদ্রের তীরে 
আনমনে একাকী দাড়িয়ে 
আমি সেই প্রস্থর খণ্ডটি 
সবাই যাকে দেখে বলে - বাহ!
কেমন সাহসী দেখেছো 
দুরন্ত ঢেউ গুলোর সাথে
দিবারাত্রি কেমন যুদ্ধে রত। 

সত্যিটা তারা  কি জানতো 
প্রতিদিনের এই মিথ্যে যুদ্ধে 
আমি কতটা ক্লান্ত 
ভয় হয় ! আঘাত সইতে না পেরে 
যদি আশে পাশের বালুর মতো 
ভেঙে গুড়িয়ে যায় আমার অস্তিত্বটাই।

তখনো কি বলবে, "দেখো কি সাহসী"
নাকী তাচ্ছিল্যে পা মাড়িয়ে চলে যাবে 
............. ভাবছি?

At the shoreline 
of a huge ocean
I am that rock
who stands alone
Amazed, they say
"What a brave soul,
constantly waging a war
with the waves"

If only they knew
the actual truth 
Tired, I constantly fear of
finally loosing this meaningless battle
only to crumble just like the sand
scattered all around me

Then, will they still
call me a brave-heart
Or, will they stomp away
in disdain
......... I wonder?

Halla Bol

हल्ला बोल 

बीते साल का आखरी शाम था 
नए साल का सबको इंतज़ार था 
सहर के हर गली कूचे में छायी मस्ती थी 
मैख़ाने में मदीरा उस दिन सस्ती थी 
चारो ओर जश्न था, भीड़ था 
फिर भी हालात काफी गंभीर था 
बेकाबू नपुंसको का झुण्ड बावला हुआ 
फिर द्रौपदी के सम्मान पर हमला हुआ 
यह किस्सा सदियों से बारंबार हुआ 
इंसानियत आज फिर से शर्मसार हुआ 

मत रो बहन! वक़्त नहीं यह रोने का 
तू आंसू पोंछ, वक़्त हैं सबक सीखाने का 
डर मत! बाहर निकल! युद्ध कर 
दुर्गा बन इस समाज को शुद्ध कर 
हमसे हैं वो इस सत्य  का एहसास दिला 
इस अपमान में उनके बर्बादी का एहसास दिला 
गर राधा हैं हम, तो हम काली भी हैं 
हर नारी में छिपी एक लक्ष्मीबाई भी हैं 
नपुंसको!! फिर न कहना "औरतो ने हर रिश्ता तार तार किया"
वो तुम्ही तो थे जिसने इंसानियत को शर्मसार किया

Last night of the year it was
Waiting for New Year to ring in
Drinks were cheap at every bar
As this city too was celebrating 
Crowded streets of merry-makers
Lost control of their senses
Some turned mischief-makers
and disrespected the damsels
This is repeat of a centuries old story
Once again humanity lost its glory

Don't cry my sister!! this is not that time
Wipe your tears, straighten your spine
Be Brave! Come out and fight
Cleanse the society through Durga's might
Through us they exist, teach them this lesson
Disrespecting us will lead to their annihilation
If we are Radha, we are Kali too
Behind every women, there's hiding a Laxmibai too!!
Let them say "Woman!! You lost all humane glory "
For it was them who first started this inhuman story!

ऐ नदी 

थिरकती, बलखाती तुम गांव गांव फिरती हों 
सोलहबी साल की युवती सी लचक मटक डोलती हो 
कभी शांत तो पल में शरारत भरी हलचल दिखलाती हों 
ऐ नदी!! क्या तभी तुम किसी नारी सी लगती हो

चट्टानों का सीना चिर तुम हसीं वादियों में इठलाती हो
सभी के अरमानो का दिया अपने आँचल में संजोये रखती हो 
जब टूटे संयम का बाँध - सब चूर चूर कर जाती हो 
ऐ नदी!! क्या तभी तुम किसी नारी सी लगती हो

कवि की प्रेरणा बन शब्दों में ढल जाती हो 
प्रेम, विरह या हो तपस्या - सबका साथ निभाती हो 
समर्पण ही हैं सर्बोच्च सत्य - ये बतलाती हो 
ऐ नदी!! क्या तभी तुम किसी नारी सी लगती हो
